If you chose to play Barbarian in Diablo Immortal, here we have a guide with a simple build with the best skills to use, items, gems and most useful legendary equipment during the leveling phase, whether solo or in a group, and more tips.
The first moments of your adventure in Sanctuary will be relatively simple, after all, the initial skills are really intuitive. Eventually you will find yourself with more skills than slots available and you will have to make a decision – and we are here to help you.
Barbarian Skill Rotation

The basic skill rotation is: Sprint to be at melee reach, Wrath of the Berserker to earn buffs (at high level), Hammer of the Ancients, and Whirlwind. The Lacerate attacks allows you to finish off the toughest enemies remaining and heal yourself.

Lacerate
A good single target attack that regenerates your health.

Cleave <> Wrath of the Berserker (Level 50)
Cleave is a good AoE which is only replaced at level 50 by Wrath of the Berserker.

Hammer of the Ancients
A great area attack, ideal for decimating groups of enemies.

Chained Spear (level 3) <> Sprint (level 18)
Chained Spear (level 3) gives some crowd control at first, but is replaced by Sprint at level 15, which gives it a lot of mobility.

Whirlwind (level 8)
The Barbarian’s iconic ability could not be missing: try to group monsters before using it.
Legendary Items for Barbarian
It’s unlikely you’ll find all these items while leveling up, but sometimes having them can justify switching from one skill to another. Remember to upgrade your gear as much as possible, even if it’s not legendary, as you can transfer the level for free for new items you find and equip.
- Head: Breath – Dash duration is extended by 30%.
- Torso: The Gathering – The Maelstrom pulls enemies hit.
- Shoulderpads: Ydama’s Cyclone – Increases Maelstrom’s damage by 10%.
- Legs: Swiftwing – Dash increases your allies’ movement speed, which is great in a group. If you’re playing alone, then any pants will do.
- Primary Weapon: The Tempest – Maelstrom’s area of effect is increased, but movement speed is reduced.
- Secondary Weapon: Battle Pass Rank 10 gives you the choice between several secondary legendaries, we advise you to choose The Remembered – the Hammer of the Ancestors summons spirits that stun enemies and then fight by your side.
Common Gems
Focus on damage (Tourmaline, red gem) and armor penetration (Sapphire, blue gem).
Legendary Gems
You won’t have much opportunity to choose your legendary gems or optimize them while leveling up, unless you invest large sums of money. Use whatever you find at the moment that brings the best attributes.
Tips for a Barbarian
The Barbarian has some of the best area damage in the game, while being an extremely agile class. What makes it even better is that it can deal damage while moving, so make the most of that fact. Unlike the Demon Hunter, the Barbarian has many crowd control options, which makes it a more desirable class to play in a group, not to mention the benefits it offers. However, the party-focused build differs a bit from the better solo build, using more abilities that benefit allies than damage, so it’s not such a versatile class. Finally, its damage to single targets is also not the best.
How to level up a Barbarian?
The tip is valid for any Diablo Immortal class: do the story missions until you get to a point where you need to fulfill some requirement to progress. Generally, this requirement is just about having reached a certain level, so we recommend completing Battle Pass missions, which offer a lot of experience. This would be the fastest way to level up, but it’s not necessarily the most interesting.
If you’re looking for a more fluid experience, we recommend sticking with the story quests and embarking on optional activities whenever they arise, which include dungeons and lairs.
